STATES PARTIES
Nine heads of state have the ability to launch more than 12,500 nuclear weapons between them, threatening all life on this planet. The 2017 United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is the circuit breaker to the nuclear status quo. It is our best chance against our worst weapon.
ICAN was awarded the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of our work “to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons” and our “ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons”.
