CAMPAIGN NEWS:
Celebrate the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty Anniversary with us!
It has been two years since the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons entered into force, and made nuclear weapons illegal, forever.
In the lead up to the anniversary on January 22nd, we will be highlighting events coordinated by ICAN Partner Organisations and supporters who are celebrating the progress of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and rallying support for Australia to join this landmark piece of permanent international law.
We have listed some of these events below.

Challenging Nuclearism: A Humanitarian Approach to Reshape the Global Nuclear Order
Given the heightened threat of the use of nuclear weapons in the Russian-Ukraine conflict, this discussion will explore how the Humanitarian Initiative described in her research “will challenge nuclear states in a way that has until now not been possible” to help build sustainable peace.
Dr Marianne Hanson is Associate professor in International Relations, and Foundation Director of the Rotary Peace Centre at the University of Queensland. She is Co-Chair of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) Australia and a member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) in Queensland. Dr Hanson has untiringly represented both WILPF and ICAN to local Australian government Councils to build support and advocacy for Australia to sign the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
