Who are the new TPNW supporters?

Penny Allman-Payne (GRN – QLD Senate)
Penny Allman-Payne has been elected as the second Greens Senator for Queensland. Living in Gladstone on the state’s central coast, she has worked as a secondary school teacher for over 25 years and is an active member of the Queensland Teachers’ Union.
Allman-Payne signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in May 2022.

Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah (ALP – Higgins, VIC)
Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah is the new member of parliament for the seat of Higgins. Higgins is situated in Melbourne’s inner south-east, and until now had never been held by a member of the ALP. Dr Ananda-Rajah is an expert in infectious diseases and has been active in the fight for a strong response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The previous member for Higgins was Katie Allen, for the Liberal Party.
Dr Ananda-Rajah signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.

Stephen Bates (GRN – Brisbane, QLD)
Stephen Bates is the new member of parliament for the seat of Brisbane – which is centred around the Brisbane CBD. Bates won the seat in a tight three-way contest, defeating incumbent Trevor Evans, for the Liberal Party. He has a degree in Social Science from the University of Queensland, and prior to his election worked as a retail worker.
Bates signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in May 2022.

Alison Byrnes (ALP – Cunningham, NSW)
Alison Byrnes is the new member of parliament for the seat of Cunningham, based around the northern suburbs of Wollongong. Byrnes succeeds long-time MP and parliamentary pledger Sharon Bird – for whom she was chief of staff.
Byrnes signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in March 2022.

Zoe Daniel (IND – Goldstein, VIC)
Zoe Daniel is the new independent member of parliament for the seat of Goldstein, based around Melbourne’s south-eastern bayside suburbs. Daniel is a former ABC journalist and foreign correspondent, who ran on a platform of integrity, gender equality and action on climate change. The previous member for Golstein was Tim Wilson, for the Liberal Party.
Daniel signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in March 2022.

Carina Garland (ALP – Chisholm, VIC)
The new member of parliament for the seat of Chisholm in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs is Dr Carina Garland. Prior to the election, Dr Garland was Assistant Secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council. She also has a degree in English Literature, as well as a PhD in Gender and Cultural Studies. The previous member for Chisholm was Gladys Liu, for the Liberal Party.
Garland signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in February 2022.

Jerome Laxale (ALP – Bennelong, NSW)
A councillor and former mayor of Ryde in Sydney’s north, Jerome Laxale is the new member of parliament for the seat of Bennelong – formerly held by John Howard and John Alexander. In his time as a councillor he has fought to reduce his community’s reliance on fossil fuels and increase investment in renewable energy. The previous member for Bennelong was John Alexander, for the Liberal Party.
Laxale signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in May 2022.

Louise Miller-Frost (ALP – Boothby, SA)
Louise Miller-Frost is the new member of parliament for the South Australian seat of Boothby, which takes in the bottom of the Adelaide Hills out to the coast. Miller-Frost has long been involved in the health sector, in both government and non-profit organisations, and was the CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society SA prior to the election. The previous member for Boothby was Nicolle Flint, for the Liberal Party.
Miller-Frost signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.

Barbara Pocock (GRN – SA Senate)
Barbara Pocock has been elected as a Senator for South Australia. Pocock is an economist and professor at the University of South Australia. She has been a strong campaigner for women’s rights and has stood against the disposal of nuclear waste in South Australia.
Pocock signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in May 2022.

David Pocock (IND – ACT Senate)
David Pocock has been elected as one of two Senators for the ACT. Born in Zimbabwe, Pocock is perhaps best known as a former rugby union player for the Wallabies. However, he has also been a long-time champion for both environmental and social justice causes. For example, in 2021 his organisation FrontRunners launched The Cool Down, which brought together hundreds of Australian athletes to call for more action on climate change. He will take up the seat formerly held by Senator Zed Seselja, for the Liberal Party.
Pocock signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.

Dr Gordon Reid (ALP – Robertson, NSW)
Dr Gordon Reid is the new member of parliament for the NSW Central Coast seat of Robertson, based around Gosford and Woy Woy. Dr Reid is a Wiradjuri man and emergency department doctor, who has advocated for increased investment in health services and for protecting the diverse ecosystems of the Central Coast. The former member for Reid was Lucy Wicks, for the Liberal Party.
Reid signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.

Daniel Repacholi (ALP – Hunter, NSW)
A former Olympian and Commonwealth Games shooting gold medalist, Daniel Repacholi is now the member of parliament for the seat of Hunter. The seat takes in much of the Hunter region, including parts of the city of Lake Macquarie and Cessnock. Repacholi has worked as a tradesman, coal miner and as a manager in the machinery sales industry. The previous member for Hunter was Joel Fitzgibbon for the Labor Party, a Parliamentary Pledge signatory.
Repacholi signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in March 2022.

Tracey Roberts (ALP – Pearce, WA)
Tracey Roberts is the new member of parliament for the seat of Pearce in Perth’s northern suburbs. The seat stretches from Wanneroo in the south to Two Rocks in the north. Roberts has served as a local councillor since 2003, and is currently the mayor of the City of Wanneroo. The former member for Pearce was Christian Porter, for the Liberal Party.
Roberts signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.

Dr Monique Ryan (IND – Kooyong, VIC)
Dr Monique Ryan is the new member for Kooyong in Melbourne’s inner east – stretching from the suburbs of Hawthorn and Kew out to Mont Albert. Dr Ryan won a high-profile campaign against former Treasurer Josh Frydenburg, for the Liberal Party, in the seat once held by former Prime Minister Robert Menzies. Prior to running as an independent candidate, Dr Ryan was director of the neurology department at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital.
Dr Ryan signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in March 2022.

David Shoebridge (GRN – NSW Senate)
David Shoebridge has been elected as a Senator for New South Wales. Shoebridge has served as a local councillor on Woollahra Municipal Council, and was a Greens member of the NSW Legislative Council from 2010 until the 2022 Federal Election. In his time in politics, Shoebridge has been a strong advocate for human rights and political integrity.
Shoebridge signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in January 2021, as a member of the NSW Parliament.

Allegra Spender (IND – Wentworth, NSW)
The new independent representative for the seat of Wentworth – once held by former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull – is Allegra Spender. Wentworth takes in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, including Woollahra, Rose Bay and Vaucluse. Spender has worked in both the private and government sectors and has been a strong advocate for investment in renewable energy. Her mother is prominent fashion designer Carla Zampatti. The previous member for Wentworth was Dave Sharma, for the Liberal Party.

Kylea Tink (IND – North Sydney, NSW)
Located on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, the seat of North Sydney’s new representative will be Kylea Tink. Tink has had a successful career in both the private and charity sectors. Specifically, she served as CEO of the McGrath Foundation and Camp Quality. Tink ran an independent campaign focused on climate action, equality, and political integrity. The former member for North Sydney was Trent Zimmerman, for the Liberal Party.
Tink signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in March 2022.

Linda White (ALP – VIC Senate)
Linda White has been elected as a Senator for Victoria. She has long been involved in the union movement, serving as assistant national secretary of the Australian Services Union. In that time she helped coordinate equal pay claims for non-government social and community services.
White signed the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge in April 2022.
